  • Catalogue Essay

Robert Polidori’s love affair with the Château de Versailles began in 1985, when he won an exclusive contract to document its restoration. In Versailles, a project which has spanned over 30 years, Polidori captures the decadence, extravagance and ultimate transformation of the palace from a symbol of monarchy to a modern museum. La Méridienne was so named for Marie-Antoinette’s fondness for taking a rest at midday.
