This design was produced for the School of Architecture at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen.  Kjærholm, who was an assistant teacher there at the time, designed two types of desks for students and faculty, the materials and variations in size corresponding to the status of the user.  The desks featured metal ferrules which separated the parts from one another and became a model for his future work in steel.
