Peter Marigold’s designs for storage emerged out of his interest in how people handle the ‘personal rubble and shrapnel’ in their lives and the relationship that forms between the owner and the object.  The ‘Octave’ developed out of two previous Peter Marigold design concepts:  the ‘Split’ series, wherein he explores the geometric principle of interchanging angles of split objects, and the ‘Flauna’ series wherein the angular shelving units of ‘Split’ incorporate twisting branches.  A refinement of the two, the ‘Octave’ shelving unit is composed of elements inspired by musical instruments together with a single branch split into four pieces.  ‘Octave’ further explores the anthropomorphic quality of the branches initiated by ‘Split’ and ‘Flauna’ and emphasizes the ‘underlying logics in nature…that can also been seen in musical instruments'.
Marigold is one of a handful of people who have permission to remove woods from fallen trees in Hampstead Heath.
