  • Catalogue Essay

The reference 570, was the firm’s first oversized Calatrava model, housed in a 35 millimeter case launched in 1938, earning the nickname “Grande Calatrava”. The production for the reference 570 lasted for over 34 years from 1938 till 1972. In comparison to the reference 96, Patek Philippe’s first Calatrava model with a 30.5 millimeter case, the reference 570 bares a rather wearable case size even in today’s standards.

The reference 570 can be classified into three series, with the first series featuring the caliber 12 120, followed by the second series which was introduced in 1950 with an upgraded caliber 12 400 and lastly the third series which was introduced in 1960 with a further upgraded caliber 27 AM 400.

The present example is a second series reference 570 in white gold with a silvered dial. Produced in 1965, this present example houses the caliber 27 S C, which is witnessed in second series examples. The present example is presented in overall very good condition and still bearing its beautiful crisp case proportions.
