  • Catalogue Essay

Zircon is one of the oldest minerals found on planet earth and comes in a range of attractive colours. Due to its high refractive index and superb luster, it is often confused with diamond simulants, which unfortunately underrates the true value of this gem. Blue zircon was particularly popular in Victorian jewellery, and the famous gemmologist George Kunz was a true advocate of the stone, so much as that he proposed to name it ‘starlite’ for its impeccable fire. All the blue zircons on this necklace glow with an almost electric colour amid the brilliance of diamonds. The fringes and garland style design evoke a sense of regality and romance typically found in historical jewels.
