  • Catalogue Essay

Natural coloured diamonds are known for the scarcity of their supply, and in today's market, pink diamonds in particular, represent less than 0.05% of the annual global production of diamonds. Only one in one hundred thousand diamonds possess a colour deep enough to qualify as 'Fancy'. It is said that the majority of gem-quality pink diamonds yielded annually weigh no more than 0.20 carat and a pink diamond over 1 carat is considered very rare. The present lot, set with a Fancy Pink diamond that weighs 2.05 carats, is a rare example of a true, pure pink diamond. The curves of its rarely-seen oval-cut shape, together with its soft but distinct hue of pink, lend a pleasing feminine feel to this ring by renowned designer Martin Katz.
