  • Catalogue Essay

Natalya Nesterova is an extraordinary and worthy representative of a phenomenon of Russian artistic life of the 20th century; a time when women were among those who defined the movement of time in art. Nesterova has created her own enormous world and has found her own angle of vision in the reality that surrounds us. As an artist, she sees this world in a way that we cannot. Natalya Nesterova possesses a truly stunning artistic talent: for the most part she paints with ‘earthy colors,’ coming from the earth. She feels the very ‘soil’ of those phenomena of which she speaks. The texture of her paintings is utterly explosive; it makes us shudder, wondering how this small, fragile woman can have such strength, power and emotional energy. She is a major planet… I.
