In the three works, Rooms 2, Room 4 and Room 5, the artist exhibits expressiveness in his painterly simplicity, yet shows incredible power in his materialistic composition. In the confined areas of the rooms, Raedecker creates the impression of boundless space oozing a sense of the mysterious. Alternatively however, the works are loaded with indications of human presence, with elements such as the empty glasses on the bed stand in Room 5, infusing the painting with an eerie mood and evoking a powerful psychological tension.

Giving traditional painting a new twist Raedecker’s distinctive threading is combined with a bold use of colour which he uses pictorially to emphasise the central themes of each room. The artist has provided the setting and the theme; it is up to the viewer to fill it in with a story.
