The bold colours and combination of luminescent Perspex and fluorescent lighting in the work of Johanna Grawunder have come to be seen as her signature style.  But in a time when being ‘green’ is of utmost concern, it is another aspect of Grawunder’s designs that push her to the forefront: her ability  to cater to this consciousness by utilising energy-efficient lighting and low-cost mass production techniques.  Because her designs are simple, there is minimal material blocking the light from efficiently spreading with less energy output.  Additionally, in the present lot, Grawunder combines two things – the table and the overhead light – and creates one fully efficient design that uses far less material than would be traditionally required to create the two separate entities.  Often referred to as being provocative and sustainable, Grawunder’s designs prove themselves to also be quite contemporary and relevant.
