  • Catalogue Essay

Having gained a following after the launch of the first Nautilus ref. 3700 in 1976, Patek Philippe released to the public a smaller model of the Nautilus via the ref. 3800 in 1981. Measuring a smaller case size at 37.5mm, the ref. 3800 was referred as the “3/4” size, making it perhaps one of the best unisex Patek Philippe Nautilus reference.

The ref. 3800 was one of the most varied Nautilus models with a wide array of case materials and dial variations during its long 25-year production span. The reference was introduced in four series throughout its production with upgraded calibers in each series.

    1st Series – 1981 until 1987, caliber 335 SC
    2nd Series – 1987 until 1992, caliber 335 SC, with quick-set date
    3rd Series – 1992 until 1997, caliber 330 134
    4th Series – 1997 until 2006, 330 194

The present ref. 3800 from circa 1998 belongs to the last series of the reference produced confirmed by the caliber. Encased in stainless steel and fitted with a “glossy” black dial with applied luminous Roman numerals, this present variant of the ref. 3800 is perhaps one of the most unique as Roman numerals were never incorporated in the new line of Nautilus models again. Presented in attractive overall condition and accompanied by the original Patek Philippe Certificate of Origin, it is a fantastic opportunity for lovers of the Nautilus to acquire one of the most versatile models fit for both ladies and gentlemen.
