  • Catalogue Essay

Patek Philippe has a long tradition producing the finesse chronograph wristwatches available on the market, from the early 20th century and the references 130, 530 and 1463 to the 5070 released in 1998, they are a few of the most sought after timepieces available. In 2006 Patek Philippe released two new models the reference 5960P like the present watch and the famed Nautilus reference 5980, both innovative masterpieces. They were the first chronograph wristwatches featuring an annual calendar opposed to previous models with perpetual calendar. The automatic movement was fully designed and produced in-house, and the watches became sporty classics with a “bulls eye” dial with mono-counter incorporating the minutes and 12-hour registers in one subsidiary dial at the six o’clock.

First released in 2006, the platinum reference 5960 featured a grey-black dial and in 2009, Patek Philippe released a pink gold model with white dial, as well as updated the platinum version like the present wristwatch with a steel blue dial. Presented at auction for the first time, this watch is offered in new factory sealed condition and complete with box and papers. This is an opportunity for collectors to own one of the most innovative watches of the 21st century.

Other famous models include perpetual calendars such as the ref. 1526, ref. 3448 and 3450, chronographs such as the reference 130, 530 and 1463, as well as reference 1436 and 1563 split seconds chronographs. Patek is also well-known for their classically styled, time-only "Calatrava" dress watches, and the "Nautilus," an iconic luxury sports watch first introduced in 1976 as the reference 3700 that is still in production today.
