  • Catalogue Essay

The reference 448 was released in 1935 at a time when smaller diameter watches were in fashion due to the Art Deco movement. The watch was manufactured in three series: First series - 10’’’ caliber or pendant watch caliber, like the present watch; second series - 10 105 or 10 110 caliber, from 1939; third series - 10 200 caliber, from 1946.

This lovely example from 1930 with confirmed black dial in a pink gold case houses an early cal. 10”’ movement produced in 1930 with a later case encased when the ref. 488 was launched in 1935, with its subsequent date of sale in 1938.

Other famous models include perpetual calendars such as the ref. 1526, ref. 3448 and 3450, chronographs such as the reference 130, 530 and 1463, as well as reference 1436 and 1563 split seconds chronographs. Patek is also well-known for their classically styled, time-only "Calatrava" dress watches, and the "Nautilus," an iconic luxury sports watch first introduced in 1976 as the reference 3700 that is still in production today.
