The Cartier Parallélogramme is one of the firm’s most memorable and clever wristwatch designs. Conceived as a driver’s watch in the 1930’s, it renders the reading of the time much easier without having to remove the hands from the steering wheel. Instead, while the left arm is at a 60-degree angle, the beholder’s eyes are looking straight onto the dial. The present example is number 26 of a strictly limited edition of only 100 examples, made in 1996, fitted with a mechanical movement. The beautifully engine-turned silvered dial displays a sun-burst wave-design, highlighted by black Arabic numerals and indexes. The blued steel hands are a signature feature of Cartier’s classic wristwatch designs. Thanks to its elegant yet generous case proportions this watch can be his or hers and could be worn both casual or very formal. The white gold deployant clasp offers its wearer great comfort and enhanced security when wearing the watch.

    Cartier

    French

With the Constitution of 1848 came a new standard for luxury in France. Founded one year prior by Louis-Francois Cartier, the house of Cartier was one of the first to use platinum in jewelry making. This incredibly expensive material became the stepping-stone for Cartier to experiment in form, mechanisms and attitude. It helped men move from pocket watches to wristwatches, effectively making the watch much more functional and prominent in a man's overall wardrobe.

Cartier did not only touch on functionality. Inspired by a commissioned painting by George Barbier featuring a black panther at the feet of an elegantly bejeweled woman, Cartier began incorporating wild animals in his designs—most notably, Cartier Panthère rings, bangle bracelets and watches. Yet it wasn't until the late 1960s that the house of Cartier debuted their iconic yellow and rose gold LOVE collection, which includes the famous bracelet that only a special screwdriver can open.
