His artistic development was decisively shaped by extended stays in France, most notably a close personal and professional encounter with Vincent van Gogh in Arles in 1888, thus positioning his work at a rare and direct intersection between Danish naturalism and post-Impressionist experimentation. Mourier-Petersen’s landscapes and interiors favor subdued naturalism and atmospheric restraint, translating French plein-air influence into a quieter, introspective idiom rooted in Danish rural and domestic settings.
