Biography

A highly trained and experienced goldsmith, Nadia Morgenthaler presides over one of Geneva’s most esteemed High Jewellery ateliers, creating jewels for some of the world’s leading Maisons, as well as for her own collection, Nadia Morgenthaler Haute Joaillerie.  She discovered the joys of jewellery-making, aged 15, on a graphic design course at Geneva’s School of Decorative Arts that allowed her to try other disciplines taught at the school. She fell in love on the first day, and since then has continued to study and train assiduously, honing her crafts skills, pushing technical boundaries, and finding her own distinctive design voice.  In 2009, she took over the atelier where she had been working as an artisan for some 10 years, and in 2013 launched her first collection, at a private event in the atelier, where she showed her creations under bell jars placed on the workbenches.

Morgenthaler specialises in spectacular earrings, of exquisitely refined details and breath-taking, complex structures, fusing high-tech processes with age-old hand-craftsmanship.  Her style is a fusion of eclectic influences, romantic yet architectural: Belle Epoque refinement of gowns and jewels. Parisian fin de siècle industrial ironwork, Maharajahs’ magnificence, and a touch of Arabian Nights’ opulence that comes specifically from the antique, natural pearls that are a defining feature of her work. Her jewels are dramatically new and never-before-seen yet they resonate with indefinable echoes of past splendour, richly emotive, romantic, and poetic, their distinctive low-key drama made possible by awe-inspiring technique. Morgenthaler selects stones, especially spinels for their soft, intriguing often indefinable colours and charm and is renowned for her uncompromising quest for both technical and artistic perfection.

Earrings bring light to the face; they can be seen from all sides.  So my earrings have to be flexible, mobile, and shimmering. I want my jewels to look alive.
