There’s something absolutely wonderful about worldtime wristwatches. Besides making one feel a little more intelligent for knowing the time in anywhere in the world, they're often items of great sentimental value because they are connected to memories of travel and leisure.

They’re also extremely complicated watches. Patek Philippe was the first watchmaker to present a serially made worldtime wristwatch, using a mechanism designed by Louis Cottier to create the reference 1415HU (Heures Universelles or World Time) in 1939. For more than 50 years, the worldtime wristwatch would remain one of its most exclusive models, and one that very few others would challenge.

They're now a little more readily available, but new releases remain few and far in between. Today, Arthur Touchot presents two of the latest watches in the genre, the Patek Philippe 5930G-001 and the Vacheron Constantin Evasion Worldtime, and explains why one is the latest sequel in an extremely popular franchise, and the other, a very well-executed remake.
