First Reveal: Helen Frankenthaler’s ‘Off White Square’

Helen Frankenthaler’s ‘Off White Square,’ painted in 1973, is one of the largest and most ambitious works she ever made. A masterpiece of her mature style, it features expressive expanses of pure color, which characterize the highly acclaimed body of work she created during the period. A prime example of Frankenthaler’s signature use of diluted paint, ‘Off White Square’ shows a renewed assurance and shift in focus to all-over composition. Phillips is pleased to bring ‘Off White Square’ to auction at our 20th Century & Contemporary Art Evening Sale in New York on 12 November 2020.
