Kelly Troester and Cary Leibowitz, Phillips’ Worldwide Co-Directors of Editions, said, “We are delighted with the results of our second auction of the year. Over twenty auction records were set, including record prices for Keith Haring and Cy Twombly, as well as minimalist portfolios by Donald Judd, Sol Lewitt, and Felix Gonzalez-Torres. The rarity and historical imagery of German Expressionist works led to spirited bidding from our bustling saleroom, with Max Pechstein’s set of The Lord’s Prayer drawing particularly strong attention. Demand was also strong for Joan Miró’s large-scale aquatints and exceptional works by Andy Warhol. We look forward to our next auction on June 9 in London.”
