Alexander Payne, Worldwide Head of Design, said, “'This evening’s auction showed a healthy market for 20th Century and Contemporary Design, with strong results largely driven by determined bidding from private collectors. This sale included a particularly diverse and impressive offering of rare and historically important works, including the Eileen Gray screen, the rediscovered Marcel Coard sofa, the da Silva Bruhns carpet from the Manik Bagh Palace, and the bench by Gio Ponti from the Palazzo Contini Bonaccorsi, all of which attracted bidding that reflected their importance. We now look forward to tomorrow’s Day sale, and also to hosting tomorrow evening’s ‘Time for Design’, a benefit auction for the new Design Museum.”
