London – 12 November 2012 – Phillips de Pury & Company is proud to announce the expansion of its European presence with a new Editions department in London with Robert Kennan as Head. The inaugural London sale will take place on 27th February 2013, with the department offering two sales a year in the Evening format following the successes of the New York Evening Editions sales.

“We are delighted to welcome Robert Kennan to Phillips de Pury & Company to head up Modern and Contemporary Editions London. His wealth of experience and depth of knowledge is an invaluable asset that will contribute greatly to the successful expansion of our sale categories in London.” Michael McGinnis, Chief Executive Officer, Phillips de Pury & Company. With nearly twenty years of experience in the international auction business, Robert Kennan will oversee both the creative and business aspects of the London Editions department. An expert in fine art prints and editions, Kennan has engaged himself in every aspect of the field and has worked as an appraiser, printmaker and publisher. Kennan received a BA (Hons) in Graphic Design and Printmaking. He started his career at Phillips Son and Neale and went on to become head of the Prints department at Bonhams, London for 18 years. Kennan’s extensive knowledge of this specialty includes major developments in western printmaking from the Renaissance to contemporary editions.

Kennan spearheaded the momentous sale of Edvard Munch’s Madonna in 2010, an exceptionally rare, hand coloured impression that realised £1,252,000 ($1,886,764) at the time only the second print ever to exceed a million pounds at auction. He also arranged the highly successful and first ever sale devoted to David Hockney’s works on paper, as well as the first sale ever dedicated to 20th century Avant-Garde British Printmaking.
